A Calling, Not Just a Career: Why the World Needs More Christian Counsellors - aifc
Reading Time: 2 minutes

In The Gift of Being Yourself, David Benner reminds us that true vocation is not something we choose but something we are given. He writes, “Vocation is a response to a calling that is shaped more by who we are than by what we do.”

This is why Christian counselling is not just a profession—it’s an outflow of who God has made us to be.

Every day, countless people struggle with pain, anxiety, and uncertainty, searching for someone who will not just listen but truly understand. This is where Christian counsellors step in, offering a unique, faith-based approach to healing.

More Than a Career—It’s a Calling

Christian counselling goes beyond traditional therapy, inviting individuals into a deeper healing journey through Christ. As Benner describes, this journey draws us closer to God’s love, which then overflows into our work with others.

Healing through Christian counselling is not just about techniques—it’s about transformation:
✅ Listening when no one else will.
✅ Holding space for people in their pain.
✅ Walking with them, just as Christ walks with us.

The Unique Role of Christian Counsellors

In a world where mental health is often treated in isolation, Christian counsellors understand that true healing comes from addressing both the mind and the soul. People need more than coping mechanisms—they need a foundation of faith, hope, and renewal.

Answering this call requires:

  • A deep connection with God.
  • Accountability within a faith-based community.
  • A willingness to grow and learn as God continues to transform us.

The Urgent Need for Faith-Based Counselling

As mental health challenges rise, the demand for faith-based counselling has never been greater. Christian counsellors are uniquely positioned to offer hope and healing that integrates both clinical skills and biblical wisdom.

Answering the Call: Is Christian Counselling for You?

Have you sensed God shaping your heart, drawing you toward this work as a response to His calling? As Benner emphasises, “Our deepest fulfilment comes not from what we achieve but from how fully we live in alignment with God’s purposes.”

If this resonates with you, now is the time to act. The need is urgent, and the time is now.
