Hurting Yet Hungry: A Generation Awakening to Hope and Meaning - aifc
Reading Time: 2 minutes

We live in a world aching under the weight of uncertainty. Finances are tight, relationships are strained, and the future feels more fragile than ever. From the rising cost of living to the growing mental health crisis, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed. Many are quietly struggling—hurting behind closed doors.

And yet, amidst the ache, something surprising is happening.

At aifc, we’re witnessing a spiritual stirring. People are beginning to turn back to God—not out of religious obligation, but from a deep spiritual hunger. In the midst of cultural tension, anxiety, and doubt, there’s a quiet but powerful longing for hope, meaning, and truth. Conversations about faith are becoming more open, more real. This spiritual revival is not just among those returning to faith, but also among those discovering it for the first time.

This shift is not just anecdotal. In his 2023 book The Surprising Rebirth of Belief in God, author and broadcaster Justin Brierley reflects on how the “New Atheism” that once dominated public discourse is losing steam. Prominent secular thinkers are now re-engaging with the Christian story—not because of blind belief, but because it offers compelling answers to life’s most important questions. Brierley writes:

The Christian story is not just a religious one—it’s a human one. It explains why we long for justice, beauty, truth, and love.”

These longings—especially in uncertain times—point to something deeper. A desire for connection. A search for identity. A craving for purpose.

A New Generation, A New Hunger

Even more encouraging is what we’re seeing in the next generation. Young people aren’t running from faith—they’re running toward it. But they’re not interested in performance or polish. They’re searching for authenticity. They want to experience real encounters with God, not just hear about them. They’re asking bold questions about purpose, calling, and their place in the world.

This isn’t just a hopeful observation—it’s a calling.

A Response to the Spiritual Hunger

This spiritual hunger demands a response. As people search for hope, healing, and direction, we need a new generation of equipped, Spirit-led counsellors, leaders, and mentors. We can no longer afford to be passive or unprepared. The world is searching—and we must be ready.

At aifc, we’re more than just a training organisation. We believe in forming whole people—spiritually, emotionally, and professionally—who are ready to carry light into a hurting world. Whether you’re called to Christian counselling, ministry, or everyday leadership, your role in God’s redemptive story matters.

Now is the time to rise, prepare, and say “yes” to the call of God—not only for your own growth, but for the sake of those you’re called to serve.

So, Will You Be Ready?

If you feel the stirring of God in your heart—if you’re hungry to make a difference and walk alongside those who are hurting—then now is the time to be equipped.

Let’s rise together and respond to the spiritual hunger we’re seeing in this generation.
